Sand greens golf in the Mallee town of Rainbow
Nhill Rd, Rainbow, VIC, Australia, 3424

Rainbow is a small town in the Southern Mallee region (Wimmera District), with a population of about 500 residents. It is 400 km NW of Melbourne and some 60 km north of Dimboola. The first property was established in 1846 and extended from Lake Hindmarsh in the south to Lake Albacutya in the north. In 1900 the Post Office was opened. Rainbow was named after a curved sandy ridge where many coloured wildflowers grew. Its nearest neighbour-town is Jeparit. Despite its remote location, Rainbow has a strong sense of community involvement, and there are many active clubs in the town. Ref SMH article, Rainbow. and also Wikipedia - Rainbow, Victoria.
