Lake Bolac is a fresh water lake that formed about 20,000 years ago, after volcanic eruptions. The lake is 27 km around the foreshore and is about 6-7 ft deep. It is around 50 km south of Ararat and is within easy driving distance of both the Grampians and the Great Ocean Road.

Lake Bolac Golf Club is well known as a good country golf course and the Lake Bolac Golf Club Good Friday Tournament is an enjoyable day out. This event is open to teams of four to a maximum of 16 teams. All monies raised are donated to Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal.

The course has 9 holes with grass greens. In 2009 there was a full field with teams travelling from nearby towns such as Willaura and Ararat but also further afield such as Geelong, Camperdown and Stawell.
