Apsley is half way between Melbourne and Adelaide, close to the border. "Driving along the Wimmera Highway, when you cross the South Australian border into Victoria the first town to welcome you is the historic village of Apsley. Surrounded by beautiful Red Gums, wetlands, flora and fauna..." One of Victoria's oldest towns, Apsley began as a key postal centre. In 1849 Apsley stood at the crossroads between colonies to the east, west, north and south. The Apsley Racing Club was established in 1855, making it the oldest in Victoria today, predating the Melbourne Cup. More information at Apsley Community Site and at Apsley, West Wimmera Shire Council Site.
